Gayathri Manthra
ॐ भूर् भुवः सुवः । (oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ suvaḥ)
तत्स॑वि॒तुर्वरेण्यं॒ (tat savitur vareṇyaṃ)
भर्गो॑ दे॒वस्य॑धीमहि । (bhargo devasya dhīmahi)
धियो॒ यो नः॑ प्रचो॒दया॑त् ॥ (dhiyo yo naḥ prachodayāt)
This powerful manthra is given by Vishvamithra Maharishi. To the great Maharishi, Parabrahma or the supreme Light revealed as Goddess Gayathri Devi. He gifted the same to humanity to realise the highest spiritual state. Through this manthra we can invoke and receive the purest energies directly from Gayathri Devi.
Originally the Gayathri Manthra comprised three stanzas. In the previous Maha Yugas (Maha Yuga involves one whole cycle of Satya, Treta, Dwapara and Kali Yuga) people were very powerful and hence they could recite all the three stanzas. However, due to the deterioration of human receptivity from the 22nd Maha Yuga, we have ended up reciting just one stanza which is prevalent now. However, this one stanza itself is strong enough for the present time to get enlightened.
The earth (BHUR), the planets (BHUVAH), and the galaxies (SWAH) are moving at a very great velocity and the sound produced by them is AUM (name of the Formless God). That God (TAT) who manifests Himself in the form of light of suns (SAVITUR) is worthy of respect (VARENYAM). We all, therefore, shall meditate (DHEEMAHI) upon the light (BHARGO) of that GOD (DEVASYA) and also chant the manthra AUM. May He (YO) guide our (NAH) intellect (DHIYO) in the right direction (PRACHODAYAT).

Our soul is the inner sun and the driver of the human system, but due to the strong negative influence of the mind which we call ego, we tend to ignore the voice of the soul. The discrimination to take the right choice, to know and act as directed by the soul is governed by the intellect which comes from the intellectual sheath which is the in-between layer of the soul and the mind.
This manthra helps to improve and sharpen this discriminatory power of the intellect. It also helps to invoke our inner sun and radiate the divinity.

To illuminate the intellect with the power to discriminate.
