Yoga
◘Yoga means Union. It is the union of the self or soul and God.
◘Yoga is consciously making efforts to achieve this union. Hence without awareness there is no Yoga.
◘When we make efforts with the aid of the body through different postures or breathing control, it results in Hatha Yoga or Kriya Yoga.
◘When we make efforts with the aid of the mind through repetition of mantra, sense control or meditation, it results in Raja Yoga.
◘When we make efforts with the aid of our emotions through love, devotion or rituals, it results in Bhakthi Yoga.
◘When we make efforts with the aid of our actions through selfless service and non-attachment to its outcome, it results in Karma Yoga.
◘When we make efforts with the aid of our intellect through discrimination and self-enquiry, it results in Jnana Yoga.
◘All Yoga culminates in God realisation through realisation of the self or soul.
◘Based on one’s inclination, one can attain self-realisation choosing one of the above Yogas or through the combination of all or a few.
◘It is the ego that comes in the way of yoga.
◘A Yogi is one who is established in Yoga all the time.

Awareness
◘Awareness is the ability to know, or to be alert or mindful about the inner self and the external world.
◘Awareness is the ability of the soul to know and perceive different realities.
◘Awareness is mainly classified into Jagrat, Swapna, Sushupti and Turiya based on the degree of participation of body, mind and the self or soul to it.
◘Jagrat or waking is a state of awareness which happens during daily interactions with the world. Here both body (sense organs) and mind (thoughts) are active.
◘Swapna or dreaming is a state of awareness which occurs during sleep. In this state, the body is passive and the mind is active.
◘Susupti or deep sleep is a state of awareness where one experiences a ‘no-thought’ state. Here both body and mind are passive.
◘Turiya or self-awareness is a state where the soul is aware of itself. In this state, the soul is active, irrespective of the participation of mind or body.
◘Turiya state is the super awareness, which is inclusive of other three states of awareness.
◘In Turiya, soul witnesses. Intuition works in this zone of awareness.
◘A realised one, always remains tuned in Turiya state pushing all other three states in the background.
◘Our level of awareness is the key and indicator of our spiritual progress.
